My name is Jessie Hawkins. Although I was born in Virginia, I call myself a Texan, because I was raised and lived in Muleshoe, Texas for 32 years. The next 11 years of my life was basking in the warm Yuma, Arizona sun before returning to Texas. This is my second year to live in Farwell. What a great community and school district!
This will be my 27th year in education. Each day is an exciting new adventure. My first 4 years I taught 6th grade in Hereford, Texas. Although Hereford was a great town, I missed being with family and returned to Muleshoe where I taught 3 years of 4th then 5th grades before deciding to teach special education. I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade special education at DeShazo for 2 years. I moved up to Muleshoe High School special education and taught 5 years. My next adventure took me to Yuma, Arizona where I taught 6th grade Math, AVID, and some Social Studies for 7 years. Next, I became an Instructional Coach. As a coach, I was the middle school Math Specialist. I went into Math classrooms to help teachers strengthen their teaching skills, while giving them ideas on how to make their instruction more exciting and engaging. I was also responsible for creating and providing staff development for teachers. Coaches were also responsible for district testing. I was fortunate to be able to train teachers on AVID strategies as well. What fun!
As I look forward to the 2018-19 school year, I can't wait to see what new adventures are around the corner.
